Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Wants Me
The Muse, RN received a note from a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) representative.
If unfamiliar with this prestigious organization:
The RWJF is a cool place – a think-tank, if you will – of high-achieving, hand-selected, uber-intelligent individuals that influence health policy in the US through privately-garnered and managed grant-funds. (Uhhhh…they got alot of money. Alot. of. money.) Their supported research projects, intelligent opinions, and expert analysis in their program areas are world-renowned and respected.
…They say it in fancier words better here.
To be selected for RWJF Scholarship is a giganto honor in the world of healthcare (not to mention, an incredible nod to your career). …A Rhodes Scholar has nothing on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award Winner.
Anyway, the RWJF rep wanted me to review and comment on a blog-article written by Susan B Hassmiller, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Senior Adviser to Nursing.
First internal response?
omg, omg, omg! – Susan Hassmiller? “Review ” and “Comment” on SUSAN HASSMILLER?!?!! (…she’s a pretty delicious deal in Nursing.)
My second internal response?
HOW DID YOU FIND ME?? (diving behind couch in typical paranoid, running-my-mouth-too-much fashion)
My third internal response?
Ohhhhhh, ya. They want me. (with appropriate Rapper-expression and head nodding) Ohhhhhhh, yaaaaaa.
Alas, they want publicity for their RWJF-funded Gallup Poll on the Influence of Nurses on Healthcare Policy. I’m happy to do it. It is a quality poll with incredibly intelligent and persuasive findings from an organization I hold in high regard.
….Not to mention the poll gives lovely support to the Muse’s rant article:
Nursing’s Image & Ability to Influence Politics

….Ms. Hassmiller just says it in fancier words better.
Call to Action: Tapping Nurses’ Leadership and Expertise
(posted Jan 20, 2010)
Can’t help but also notice, the RWJF is getting alot of traction and publicity from this poll:
- Groundbreaking New Survey Finds that Diverse Opinion Leaders Say Nurses Should have More Influence on Health Systems and Services
- While Respected, Nurses Are Not Seen as Influential Over Reform, Survey Says
- Nurses Should Have Bigger Leadership Role in Healthcare
- Healthcare Leadership, Policymakers Should Listen to Nurses, says Gallup Poll
- As Reform Advances, Is the Nation Taking Full Advantage of Nurses’ Expertise?
- Its Time for Nurses’ Input, Poll Suggests
- Nurses’ Policy Views Seen as Overlooked
- Survey: Nurses Should Have More Influence
WTH??? DID SHE WRITE EVERYBODY???
Hmmmmmm….good. The RWJF has definitely earned this publicity and, if I might add, its about freakin‘ time Nurses got some classy coverage!
<a-hem>
I mean, thank you, Ms Hassmiller and RWJF, for this work and its dissemination to the public-at-large. And, thank you, M, for letting me participate. I am honored.
Its up to you now, Nurses of America. Sit and whine, march around, threaten to strike, pout like 2-yr-olds and bitch like teenagers about parental unfairness or grow a backbone and step-up authoritatively and professionally …with grace and entitlement.
The yellow brick road is being laid before you, are you up for the journey?

Darn. ….but if the RWJF is interested….. I’m just saying….

Hahahaha. They would be one lucky organization to pick you up, Muse! Good work.
